Since enrolling on the media foundation course at Blackburn College; I have been involved in many projects in which I have had the chance to experience different aspects of the media industry. I have had extensive work experience with the Saatchi Gallery, and numerous pieces of my work have been displayed on their Art & Music web platform. I am also working towards the NCFE level 2 qualification in photography.
I have submitted ten images of various pieces of the work I have done during my current course, including an experimental audio piece I created towards the beginning of the course in which I recorded audio sounds whilst walking through some woods. I then edited this audio in Adobe Audition. Also included is some photography work I have completed in which I used two beauty dishes to get a number of overexposed images and also took photos of numerous people in the same conditions. I then edited these images in Adobe Photoshop. I have also submitted two images from my three minute experimental stop motion video which I edited in Final Cut Pro, as well as two images of a live shoot for the Saatchi Gallery Art & Music’s web platform in which we filmed Edwyn Collins, former member of the band Orange Juice, performing tracks from his new album using the three camera full HD television studio situated at Blackburn College. Also submitted, are two images of a live shoot for the same platform in which we filmed and interviewed the musician Steve Mason on location at The Grand in Clitheroe. Finally, I have also submitted a storyboard for a short film I am currently working on which will soon be in production.
When I attended the recent open day for Manchester Metropolitan University I saw the Creative Multimedia course advertised. The short lecture I attended informed me that the course has been created at the request of the industry to help students gain the skills they need to gain work within the industry. I think this course would help me to expand my skills in new media and to enable me to gain work within the industry on completion of my degree course.
